Deakin University Accommodation Project

Deakin University introduces its new student accommodation building, presenting a designer approach to student living. Built by ADCO Constructions, Strong Ox was involved in supplying our very own Amplimesh security doors and windows in collaboration with Heritage Glass.

Designed by acclaimed architects, Nettleton Tribe, the $63 million project spans over three wings, offering on-campus accommodation for an additional 575 students at Deakin’s Burwood Campus. The project features the latest in communal facilities for students, including: a central common area with lounge, kitchen and dining zones; dedicated study rooms; launderette facilities; open plan recreation space and much more.

The use of Amplimesh Intrudaguard security doors and windows by Strong Ox also helps to ensure a safe and secure retreat for students, while complementing the contemporary aesthetic of the building.

Built over 17 months and completed in 2017, the third and final stage of the project is designed to link two of the previous accommodation buildings to create a cohesive residential precinct on campus.

The merging of the three separate wings has allowed for a network of pathways and lush green spaces to take precedence throughout the space. The newest building boasts a mirrored façade that strategically reflects the surrounding landscape, while the red fins offer vibrant colour and texture inspired by the local flora, helping to incorporate a harmonious relationship between the landscaping and buildings.

The accommodation precinct showcases innovative, design and architectural elements that are seldom found among dated university accommodation. The fresh Burwood facility proves that student accommodation and design can go hand-in-hand, helping to create a space that encourages a healthy university lifestyle.
